The Depression Box
A downloadable comic
This comic was originally created for a Book Arts class at Brown University in 2017, under the guidance of poet and professor Erica Mena (https://acyborgkitty.com/).
(Yes, this is why the pages are weird shapes - it was meant to be printed as a book).
This autobiographical comic depicts the cosmic and cataclysmic depression I've suffered since childhood and the primary way I've learned to cope with it. While I use "the box" less and less as a coping mechanism as I develop new and better ways of combating my depression, this story still speaks to an experience that has ultimately shaped me as a person. I hope it speaks to you, too, so you know you aren't alone.
And if it does not speak to you, then ask yourself - What do you do when the one you love is suffering and you have run out of weapons? And how do you fight something so huge and enveloping that you cannot seem to escape it?
Think about that, and come join me in the box, just for a few pages.
